Haryana: Dismissing the plea of the MBBS medicos of World Medical College, the Department of Medical and Research, Haryana has withdrawn the proposal of shifting the MBBS students to other medical colleges. This effect is a major setback to protesting MBBS students who had been demanding the transfer since last year.
This came in light of the fact that 98 of 148 medicos are currently pursuing their MBBS course in World Medical College and authorities have not seen any scarcity or flaw in the infrastructure or the faculty.
After considering the report of the inspection conducted by the Board of Governors, the Medical Council of India (MCI) on March 19, the department had decided not to transfer the student to other state medical colleges.
The department said 98 of 148 students were studying in World College and there was no deficiency of infrastructure and faculty in view of facts and as evident from the inspection conducted by the Board of Governors, Medical Council of India, on March 19, reports Tribune.
The Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Medical and Research of Haryana has sent a letter to the Union Ministry of Health and Family welfare and stated that the inspection report indicates that the college has fulfilled the minimum standards of requirements of infrastructure and facility for accommodating 150 students.
However, since 2019, the MBBS students have been demanding their transfer to other medical colleges. The MBBS students had stated that the prevailing gross deficiencies at their medical college led to the refusal of renewal by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Many of them stated that they were depressed over the fact that with the MCI's denial to the medical college, they are most likely to lose the recognition of their degrees.
The medicos even approached the High Court. Taking cognizance of the demands of the medicos, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the state government to transfer students at the World College of Medical Sciences Research and Hospital to other recognized medical colleges in Haryana.

However, now the government of Haryana has withdrawn the proposal and in a communique addressed to the Health Ministry has stated several reasons behind their decision of not shifting the medicos.
"The government has attached the Jhajjar Civil Hospital as an associate teaching hospital with World College under an MoU and in turn, the college shall provide organizational support for programs of the Health Department. So, the students should be allowed to continue and complete their course in World College, " stated the Haryana government, in a communique, addressed to the Health Ministry, quotes Tribune.
It also stated that 250 beds of the hospital attached to the institution has been embarked for COVID patients of Mahendragarh, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, and Gurugram districts by the government.
