Kakinada: The district level multi-member Appropriate Authority and district advisory committee on the implementation of PCPNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act, at its meeting held here on Wednesday, accorded permission for closure of 56 ultrasound scanning centers and also cleared the new registrations for seven new scanning centers.
The meeting chaired by Collector Kartikeya Mishra has reviewed the implementation of the act in the district and directed the officials to ensure effective implementation of the provisions of the law preventing sex determination tests on pregnant women.
The collector has said that according to provisions of the Act, hospitals were expected to follow certain prerequisites for pre-natal diagnostic techniques and the Medical and Health Department officials were supposed to ensure its implementation properly.
Referring to 14 surprise cheeks conducted by the Medical Officers in the district during the last three months, the collector also directed the medical officers to initiate strict action for any contraventions of provisions of PCPNDT act.
