Srinagar: Scores of MBBS students on Friday protested against the administration of the SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), for not holding clinical classes for the past six months.

"Our studies are suffering because the clinical classes have not started, even after the college resumed over a month ago," said the students, who assembled inside the premises of SKIMS Medical College.

The protesting students further said that their hostels, which were occupied by the COVID-19 staff, have also not been vacated, resulting in hardships for them.

"We have paid a large sum of money for the hostels. Despite repeated requests to the administration, the COVID staff has still not vacated the hostel," they added.

They said the presence of the staff at the hostels has made them vulnerable to the virus. "So far, eight students have tested positive for COVID-19, after they came in contact with the Coronavirus staff within the hostel," they alleged.

Shouting slogans in favor of their demands, the students sought immediate commencement of their clinical classes and shifting of COVID-19 staff from the hostel.
