Yamunanagar: In a major crackdown against the illegal authorization of fake certificates in the state, around 43 fake birth certificates and one death certificate have been generated in the Yamunanagar district. The fake birth certificates were issued by allegedly hacking the Civil registration system (CRS) portal of Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar.
In order to probe the matter in detail and capture the accused in connection with the case, a special investigation team (SIT) will be constituted soon. The SIT will be formed under DSP Radaur Rajat Gulia, cyber cell police and the economic offenses wing (EOW) based on the seriousness of the matter.
The case comes nearly two years after Haryana alerted RGI, which comes under the Union ministry of home affairs, over the certificates being generated by unauthorized persons after breaching the security of the CRS portal that RGI maintains.
The matter was pending for almost two years and no action was taken by the police even after repeated reminders by the health officials. However, after finding the matter serious in nature, District Registrar Civil Hospital, Dr Rajesh Parmar sent a reminder to present SP Yamunanagar Mohit Handa who ordered immediate action in this matter.
Therefore, a case was registered under sections 120-B, 420, 467, 468 and 471 in Yamunanagar City and Sadar police stations. In addition, two criminal cases have been filed against an unknown accused by the authorities.
Although this is not the first time that Haryana has registered a case over the issuance of fake birth certificates. Two years ago, around 54 fake birth certificates were found to have been issued in the district.
In his complaint to the police, Dr Rajesh Kumar, deputy civil surgeon, said, “CRS IDs were hacked at the district civil hospital, and 43 fake birth certificates and one fake death certificate were found to be issued during an internal probe in August 2021. In December 2021, 54 fake birth certificates were found to have been issued.”
While investigating the case, it was found that the certificates were not only issued to the people of Yamunanagar district but also to districts of Panipat, Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal, Sonipat and others, HT reports.
team had earlier reported that the Haryana Government issued an advisory to "beware of birth and death certificates being generated from fake websites." A call was given to the general public not to follow the instructions given on social media sites like YouTube. Do not get any birth-death certificate made by paying money online by contacting phone numbers etc. as there are high chances of these being fake.
Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the Health Department said that in the last few months, it has come to the notice that some anti-social persons are involved in the work of making birth-death certificates by creating fake websites.
