35 Doctors Mass-Resign, After Assault On Colleagues

Madhya Pradesh Doctors Resignation

Madhya Pradesh Doctors Resignation

Angry after no action was taken against culprits who had brutally assaulted their two colleagues, 35 doctors associated with the government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district have now submitted their mass resignations.

The ugly incident goes back to 16th August 2017, when the attendants of an elderly woman, who died at the hospital, brutally assaulted two doctors - Dr. Amit Shukla and Dr. Vikas Jain. Doctors approached the local police, filing a complaint, but the FIR was lodged under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC.

Demanding the enforcement of the Doctors Protection Act, doctors at the hospital issued a three-day ultimatum to the management demanding the arrest of the culprits under the relevant section 353 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and the Doctors Protection Act. However, when the same was not done till 21st August, 35 doctors went on to submit their en-masse resignation to the management.

"All the doctors resigned this morning. All of them signed their resignation on a paper and submitted to me in protest against assault on Dr. Amit Shukla," Dr. RS Dandotia, civil surgeon, told TOI over phone.

The state Health Minister Rustam Singh is in-charge of Tikamgarh district.
