Ahmedabad: Medical Appointments in Gujarat

Three medical colleges got new deans while two hospitals got new Medical Superintendent in the latest shuffle in Gujarat. The major appointments included:

• Dr. Kalpesh Shah as the Dean of BJ Medical College
• Dr. Mukesh Samani as Dean of PDU Medical College
• Dr. Shailesh Patel as Dean of Government Medical College in Surat
• Dr. Ganesh Govekar as Medical Superintendent of new Civil Hospital in Surat
• Dr. Hita Mehta as Medical Superintendent of PDU Hospital in Rajkot

After the state Health and Family Welfare Department made major appointments in medical colleges and government hospitals across Gujarat on Thursday, Dr. Kalpesh Shah has been appointed as the dean of BJ Medical College.

The other colleges and hospitals where new appointments have been made included the new Civil Hospital in Surat, Government Medical College Surat, and PDU Medical College and Hospital in Rajkot.

Dr. Shah has been working as the head of the forensic science department at BJ Medical College. He has recently been appointed as the Dean of the institute. The position remained vacant for the last 6 months. Dr. Shah has more than 30 years of teaching experience. He is an MBBS and he pursued his MD from B.J Medical College. He has more than 50 National publications. He was the organizing Secretary of the 37th Annual National Conference of Forensic Medicon 2016 which was held in Ahmedabad.

Other than Dr. Shah, Dr. Bela Shah of BJ Medical College has been appointed as the director of PG studies and research. She has been working as the Head of the Dermatology department at BJ Medical College. The other major appointments included recruitments of:

• Dr. Ganesh Govekar as Medical Superintendent of new Civil Hospital in Surat
• Dr. Shailesh Patel as Dean of Government Medical College in Surat
• Dr. Hita Mehta as Medical Superintendent of PDU Hospital in Rajkot
• Dr. Mukesh Samani as Dean of PDU Medical College

However, in the six medical colleges of the State, approximately 42% i.e. a total number of 1,454 Class I to III posts are lying vacant among the total sanctioned strength of 3,408.
