SJMCH Puri Nears Completion Of Teaching Hospital Construction

Puri: Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH) in Puri has been constructing a teaching hospital, which will be completed by mid-January of the following year.

As per a report in Times of India, Kaushik Mishra, Superintendent of SJMCH stated that upon its inauguration, the hospital will begin with few of its operations.

He informed that once they have arranged all the necessary manpower, equipment, instruments, and facilities, the hospital will slowly become fully operational.

According to government rules, every medical college needs to have a teaching hospital of its own. In case the teaching hospital is not functional the government permits the medical college to begin classes by utilizing the teaching hospital of nearby colleges.

As of right now, the medical college’s teaching hospital is the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), puri up till the facilities are operational.

Earlier reported that SJMCH started its academic session from October 2023. As part of the 'Establishment of new medical colleges associated with existing district/referral hospitals' project, the SJMCH is one of five medical colleges that were constructed during Phase I. The Union Government has contributed Rs 567 Cr, or 60% of the total cost of 945 Cr, towards the construction of all the hospitals under the programme. Now that the SJMCH is opened, all five medical colleges are operational.
