Study on Cosmetic Treatments for Photoaging
Internal and external factors bring on wrinkling of the skin and collagen degradation. Neurotoxins can decrease muscle contractions, while chemical peels can improve skin elasticity, stimulate collagen regeneration, and enhance skin texture.
Study Overview
According to a study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD), combining chemical peels and neurotoxins on the same day may provide a safe and effective cosmetic solution for photoaging, with patients reporting high satisfaction. No adverse events were reported, and 60%, 59%, and 70% improvements were observed in the Wrinkle Severity Scale, Uniformity of Pigment Scale, and Skin Tone Scale, respectively.
This study aimed to improve cosmetic treatment standards for sun damage, fine lines, and wrinkles using chemical peels and neurotoxins as same-day combination therapy. Thirty patients with Fitzpatrick I-VI skin types were enrolled in the multi-generational study, which used photographic matching, the Wrinkle Severity Scale, the Uniformity of Pigment Scale, and Skin Tone Scales to evaluate skin improvement. Patient satisfaction was also assessed through questionnaires.
Study Results
- Same-day combinations were safe without adverse events.
- Improvements on the Wrinkle Severity Scale showed 60% improvement (average rating dropping from 1.46 to 0.59).
- Improvements on the Uniformity of Pigment Scale represented 59% improvement, with the average rating dropping from 2.27 to 0.92.
- Improvements on the Skin Tone Scale showed an average rating dropping from 2.35 to 0.71, representing a 70% improvement.
- Questionnaires correlated with objective findings with high satisfaction.
The efficacy and safety of the same-day combination of VI Peel and Botox were clinically proven by improvements in Wrinkle Severity, Uniformity of Pigment, and Skin Tone via photographic matching. Patient satisfaction was high, as indicated by perception studies.
