Sagar Medical College To Get Additional 150 MBBS Seats

Bhopal: Due to the low number of medical seats at an existing medical institution, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to increase the number of MBBS seats from 100 to 250 at Sagar Medical College so that more medical aspirants can pursue medicine there.
While National Medical Commission has been granting 150 MBBS seats to new medical colleges across the country following its draft on increasing seats for Medical Education Regulations 2023, the existing medical college in the state with 100 MBBS seats is facing inconvenience.
As per a media report in naidunia, Sagar Medical College has the least number of seats in the six old medical colleges of the state. In response, the concerned authorities have sent a proposal regarding the increase of MBBS seats at the Sagar medical college to the cabinet and a reply in this regard is expected to be released soon.

Since the medical college has a low number of seats, medical aspirants in the neighbouring area are facing difficulty to get into the college. Interestingly, the MBBS seats at the college will be increased after the acceptance of the proposal which will be a reason for the medical aspirants in the city to celebrate.
Apart from this, the college also struggles with limited resources. Officials of the Medical Education Department said that according to the criteria fixed for increasing the seats, the college also has sufficient resources. Presently there are 2118 MBBS seats in 13 government medical colleges of the state.

The apex medical regulator put forward the proposed draft regulations in the public domain inviting comments from various authorities and stakeholders.
The draft regulations comprehensively laid down the overall scheme, eligibility criteria, evaluation procedure as well as assessment and rating rules for the establishment of medical colleges and increase in seat intake.
The proposed guidelines also set the provisions related to sanctions and penalties for the medical colleges’ management in case of failure to comply with the mandated NMC regulations. Besides, the medical colleges can also submit their appeals as per the guidelines laid down in the proposed draft.
