Ragging Allegedly Drives PG Medico To Commit Suicide, Investigation Underway

Bhopal Medico Case

Bhopal: Medico's Death and Allegations of Harassment

Days after the death of Post Graduate (PG) Orthopedics medico attached to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, the family members of the deceased doctor alleged that the medico was fed up with repeated harassment, and became suicidal after being a victim of ragging by five other doctors of the institution.

The piece of information was shared by the deceased's family in their complaint to the police and the investigating authorities. The anti-ragging committee is now looking into the matter and has already started an investigation.

The case related to a junior doctor identified as Bhagwat Devangan (29) who was pursuing a postgraduate course in orthopedics. On October 1, the medico allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

The team had earlier reported that the medico's family members called his friend as he was not responding to their calls on his phone. The doctor's friend found the door of his hostel room bolted from inside, so he called the police. The door was broken and the doctor was found hanging from the ceiling fan by a rope. No suicide note was found in the room.

However, the family of the deceased doctor, who reached Jabalpur alleged that the medico was being ragged over and over again, and was consequently fed up with the alleged harassment. As per a recent media account, earlier, on July 24, the doctor had tried to commit suicide after being victimized. The names of five doctors allegedly came out in the investigation carried thereafter.

However, the college management has not given any confirmation regarding the information alleged by the deceased's family, neither did they take any step against the five doctors yet, claims a recent media report in News Track.

The family members alleged that when the doctor returned to the hostel last week to continue his studies, once again, some of his fellow doctors started harassing him and ragging him which made him suicidal that allegedly drove the doctor to end his life by killing himself.

Meanwhile, following the complaint of the family members, the anti-ragging committee along with the Dean of the college has started interrogating the fellow students of the deceased and senior doctors to reveal the real cause which might have driven him to take the drastic step, reports News Track.
