Chennai: Taking cognizance of the fact that Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) had preferred a complaint against a quack practicing medicine with a fake MBBS certificate, the Madras High Court has impleaded the police inspector as a respondent in the petition, and directed to submit a status report in the case.
The direction followed a petition moved in 2018 by the quack, where he claimed that his clinic was wrongfully sealed by the authorities under the fake allegations of running a clinic without qualification. He sought the court to direct the authorities to remove the seal on his clinic.
The clinic was sealed by TNMC under the charges of practicing with a bogus MBBS certificate.
The counsel representing the petitioner stated that the doctor had secured his registration from the Annamalai University of Chidambaram and hence he is a lawful medical practitioner and the decision of the authorities to bar his clinic from treating patients is completely unjustified.
However, the registrar of TNMC submitted that the medical records and registration certificate provided by the doctor were in fact fabricated and were not issued by TNMC. The standing counsel for TNMC stated that the certificates are bogus and have no ground to be considered as lawful. TNMC has also confirmed that they have verified from the university which also suggested the same.
The communication between the controller of examination and the registrar of TNMC has been submitted in the court as well.

After the submission of TNMC, the petitioner requested the court to allow him to withdraw the petition but the court refused to allow and adjourned the court till the next hearing which is listed on the 14th of October.
Meanwhile, the court has also sought the status report of the case raised against the doctor from the police. Taking a suo motu approach the High Court Justice D Krishnakumar has instructed the inspector of police of MMDA, a police station at Aumbakkam in Chennai to file the status report after referring him as the fourth respondent in the petition, reports TOI.
