The ACMO, Dr. Teerath Lal, conducted a surprise inspection and directed the hospital owner to give clarification on the pregnant woman and her baby's death a few days back. The official had issued a show-cause notice.

However, the hospital owner, identified as Sunita Srivastava, did not provide any explanation.

Talking about the preventive measures for such cases, the Deputy CMO, Dr. Naveen Giri, told HT that they would be launching a drive against all hospitals and clinics which are functioning against the set norms in the district.

The team had earlier reported about a similar incident from UP's Gorakhpur district where Satyam hospital was sealed and its manager was arrested after a pregnant woman admitted there passed away due to the hospital's medical negligence. During the investigation, the police found that the manager had only studied till class 12 and the hospital that he ran was registered using the certificates of doctors who never came there to treat anyone. The matter came to light after the husband of the deceased registered a complaint against him. According to the complaint, a 30-year-old pregnant woman named Sonavat Devi, a resident of the Jainpur area had died at Satyam hospital.
