PM Modi unveils Rs 3,000 Crore Super Specialty Hospital upgrades in Odisha

Jharsuguda: During a major event dedicated to development works in Jharsuguda, Odisha, Prime Minister ShriNarendra Modiofficially unveiled and dedicated several key projects, including substantial investments aimed at transforming the state's healthcare landscape. The event, which took place on 27th September 2025, saw the inauguration and foundation laying of projects worth ₹60,000 crore in total investment. The announcements emphasized health infrastructure upgrades and the expansion of digital medical services, reinforcing the commitment to delivering world-class healthcare facilities across South and West Odisha. MKCG Hospital, Brahmapur: The plan for the upgradation ofMKCG Hospital, Brahmapur, into a world-class Super Specialty Hospital was formally unveiled. 2. VIMSAR Hospital, Burla: Correspondingly, the plan for the upgradation ofVIMSARHospital, Burla, into a world-class Super Specialty Hospital was also announced. For the combined upgrade of the Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College Hospital (MKCG) in Brahmapur and the Vir Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, an investment of ₹3000 crore is being committed. This investment is anticipated to bring a "व्यापक परिवर्तन" (widespread transformation) to the health services sector in South and West Odisha. These facilities are intended to become world-class Super Specialty Institutions. The expansion of digital services through the launch of BSNL’s fully indigenous 4G/5G ready network services was hailed as a significant leap for medical access, particularly in remote and underserved areas. The connectivity provided by the BSNL 4G network is expected to enable extensive use of telemedicine. This digital advancement will grant access to advice from the "देश के बड़े से बड़े डॉक्टर" (biggest doctors in the country) via theAyushman Arogya Mandirfor remote patients. This digital facility is expected to be highly beneficial for residents in remote villages, tribal areas, and far-flung hilly regions, who will receive excellent digital services. The event also highlighted ongoing national schemes that prioritize the health and well-being of women and families: * Ayushman Bharat Yojana: The scheme ensures women and mothers have the facility for free treatment up to ₹5 lakh. * Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan: This campaign (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family) was launched on September 17 (Vishwakarma Jayanti) to ensure the optimal health of mothers. ◦ Under this campaign, over 8 lakh health camps have been organized nationwide. ◦ More than 3 crore women have been examined for diseases such as diabetes, breast cancer, TB, and sickle cell anemia. The Prime Minister urged the mothers, sisters, and daughters of Odisha to utilize the diagnostic services offered by this initiative.
