PGIMER Announces Counselling Date For Admission To Phd Course January 2023 Session

Chandigarh: Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) announced the counseling date for admission to PhD course January 2023 session.
As per the notice, the counseling session is scheduled on 30.12.2022 at 11:00 AM in the APC Auditorium, PGIMER, Chandigarh. A list of the provisional qualified candidate based on merit in the entrance exam will be displayed on the PGI website shortly.
The PhD is conducted for the following courses –
1. Medical Sciences
2. Non-Medical/Life Sciences/Social Behavioral Sciences
3. Non-Medical/Life Sciences
4. Social & Behavioral Sciences
Course details -
Minimum period three academic years - Under only exceptional circumstances and on the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee that the candidates' work has been completed, the period, of course, can be reduced to two years. The maximum period a candidate can submit their thesis is five years. Ordinarily, an extension for the thesis submission beyond five years will not be granted unless, one year before the expiry of the 5 years, the Doctoral Committee makes special recommendations for extension, giving specific reasons.
VIVA-VOCE EXAMINATION - The candidates should have at least 2 publications before the final public (Viva-Voce Examination).
Admission to PhD courses offered at the institute is made twice a year. The sessions commence on the first of January and the first of July each year. The admission to the PhD courses imparted at the institute is made on an India Merit basis by holding an entrance examination by the institute after issuing a countrywide admission notice. The exam is a Computer Based Test(CBT) conducted online.
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education&Research was conceived and planned in 1960 to create in Chandigarh an "ISLAND OF EXCELLENCE," providing a physical and intellectual milieu for young scientists working in multiple disciplines of medicine, to advance the frontiers of knowledge to render humane service to sick and suffering and to train medical and paramedical manpower. The institute was established in 1962 under the erstwhile state of Punjab. It was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament (Sr. No. 51 of 1966) w.e.f. 1st April 1967.
Objectives of the institute –
1. To develop teaching patterns in all its branches in undergraduate and postgraduate education to demonstrate a high standard of medical education.
2. To bring together, as far as possible, in one place, educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity.
3. To attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education to meet the country's need for specialists and medical teachers.
