Mumbai: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Maharashtra, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted its permission for 68 new postgraduate medical seats.
These seats have been added in four existing colleges for the academic year 2024-2025, and new seats are likely to be added as more approvals are in the pipeline, Indian Express has reported.
Among these newly permitted 68 PG medical seats, 22 seats have been added to Nerul-based Terna Medical College, 12 seats to Prakash Medical College in Sangli, 17 seats to Nerul-based Civic Medical College and 17 seats to Andheri-based ESIC Medical College.
At Terna Medical College, NMC has granted permission for 3 seats each for community medicine and obstetrics & gynecology, 6 seats for pathology, 8 seats for anesthesiology, 5 seats for radio-diagnosis.

Further, after the NMC permission, 3 seats have been added to Anesthesiology and Pathology, 2 seats each have been added to biochemistry, general surgery and paediatrics departments. Among the newly added 17 PG medical seats at Civic Medical college, permission has been granted for 8 seats for obstetrics and gynecology, 4 seats for gynecology, 3 for general medicine, and 2 for orthopaedics.
Commenting on the matter, a parent Sudha Shenoy welcomed the addition of new PG medical seats. She told the Indian Express, "These colleges did not offer PG courses earlier. But as medical PG admissions are yet to be announced a few more seats will be added to this list, as an increase in seats will be approved for existing courses too."
Last year, the State received permission for 2,303 seats for PG medical admissions including 1,499 and 804 private seats. With the NMC permission for these newly approved PG medical seats, Maharashtra now has an intake capacity of 2,371 PG medical seats including 1,533 government and 838 private medical seats.
