Newborn Dies At Govt Hospital: 2 Female Doctors, Nurse Booked For Medical Negligence In Chhattisgarh

Korba: A case of negligence was registered against two women doctors and a nurse of a government hospital in Chhattisgarh for allegedly causing the death of a newborn last month, according to the police officials.

The incident occurred on October 12 when the baby born to one Nasirn Khan fell off a table in the labour room into a dustbin in the hospital at Baikunthpur, the district headquarter of Koriya, police said.

Dr Swati Bansariya, Dr Shikha Soni and nurse Saraswati Patel of the district hospital were booked under section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC on November 23 on the basis of a probe report," said Station House Officer, City Kotwali police station, Ravindra Anant.

Police are yet to make arrests in the case, he said.

Relatives of Nasrin Khan had alleged she was left unattended at the time of childbirth and no doctors or nurses were present.

A probe was ordered by Koriya Collector NK Dugga.

"In his report, Chief Medical and Health Officer SSPaikra stated that two women doctors and the nurse had shown negligence in discharging their duties on the day of the incident," he said.

An FIR was registered on the basis of the report, the collector said.
