NEET aspirant allegedly shoots himself dead, police suspect prolonged depression, academic pressure

Bilaspur: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-oldNEETaspirant allegedly died by suicide in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, recently using his father's licensed firearm. Police officials said that the preliminary probe suggests prolonged mental health issues and academic pressure as possible contributing factors. The incident occurred in Rajkishore Nagar under the jurisdiction of Sarkanda police station in the morning, said Station House Officer (SHO) Sarkanda, Nilesh Pandey. Speaking to PTI, police officials stated that the NEET aspirant allegedlyshot himself dead with his father's licensed gun on Monday, with his family members claiming that he was battlingmental healthissues The deceased, identified as Thakur, was the son of local builder. He allegedly shot himself with a 12-bore single-barrel gun at his residence, he said. Relatives also told police that he had been preparing for the medical entrance exam (NEET) for the past two years and they were planning to take him to Bhopal for college admission in the coming days, he said. An accidental death report has been registered, and a further probe is underway. The student reportedly did not want to become a doctor and wanted to pursue a business. The student, securing 99.99 percentile, had recently cleared the National Eligibility-Entrance Test and secured 1475th rank in the OBC category, and was set to begin his MBBS admission in AIIMS Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
