National Medical Commission Asks Supreme Court To Extend Deadlines To Admissions To MBBS, Super-Specialty Courses

New Delhi: With the COVID-19 pandemic, causing delay in the entire medical admissions process across the country, the apex medical regulator, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now filed a series of applications with the Supreme Court asking it to extend deadlines to MBBS and Super-speciality courses.
As per the current rules, the last date of admission in MBBS Course for the academic session 2020-21 is 31st August 2020, while the last date of admission in Super-Speciality medical course for the academic session 2020-21 is also 31st August 2020.
However, on account of the pandemic, the entrance exams for these courses in the month of October 2020, with the counselling still on. Keeping the circumstances in mind, the NMC decided to file Applications in the Hon'ble Supreme Court praying for extension of time
"In view of reopening of medical colleges after lockdown on account of COVID-19 Pandemic the time schedule prescribed earlier could not be followed," stated its recent public notice issued by Dr. R.K. Vats, Secretary, National Medical Commission
Accordingly, the National Medical Commission has filed applications in the Hon'ble Supreme Court praying for:-.
1. Extension of last date of admission in MBBS Course for the academic session 2020-21 from 31st August 2020 to 15th January 2021.
2. Extension of last date of admission in Super-Speciality medical course for the academic session 2020-21 from 31st August 2020 to 15th January 2021.
The order passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court will be uploaded on the NMC Website in due course, the notice further added .
