Nalgonda baby-selling racket busted, doctor among 7 arrested

Nalgonda:In a shocking incident, the Nalgonda district police rescued two newborns, a 10-day-old girl and a 21-day-old boy, who were allegedly sold for money in separate incidents. Seven people, including a doctor, have been arrested in connection with the case. According to news reports, thearrested doctoracted as a broker in the first case. She allegedly arranged the illegal adoption to a couple for Rs 2.3 lakh. Another broker involved in the case reportedly took Rs 4.5 lakh for selling the baby to a couple. The racket came to light after an ICDS Supervisor, Saraswathi, lodged a complaint on October 27. Acting on the tip-off, police formed three special teams and traced the families involved in selling and buying theinfants, along with the middlemen. In the first case, a man who works at a mutton shop decided to give away his newborn daughter after his wife gave birth to a girl. He contacted Dr ****, who allegedly arranged the illegal adoption to a couple for Rs 2.3 lakh. After the police arrested the doctor, she confessed to mediating between the couple and the man after learning of his willingness to sell the baby. In the second case, a couple who had recently returned from Odisha sold their baby boy for Rs 4.5 lakh to another couple through a broker named Orsu Sreenu. The exchange reportedly took place near Nalgonda hospital. The police have rescued both babies and handed them over to Shishu Gruha for care.
