Minister O P Soni Expresses Grief Over Resident Doctor'S Death Due To Covid

Chandigarh: Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister Om Prakash Soni on Monday expressed grief over the death of a 25-year-old postgraduate medical student of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, relatives, and friends, the Minister prayed to the Almighty to give them the courage to bear this huge loss and to grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
The deceased, Dr. Ankit Kumar was a first-year junior resident in the Surgery Department. He passed MBBS from Patiala Medical College and was doing M.D. in Surgery from Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot.
After working for a week in the Covid ward, he had tested negative for the virus. However, doctors suggested a retest after he complained of acute abdominal pain and vomiting on Thursday afternoon. He later tested positive.
Barely 12 hours after testing positive for Covid-19, his condition deteriorated and he succumbed to the virus.

Doctors at the medical college are baffled at the rate at which Dr Kumar's condition deteriorated. "In view of the second phase of the pandemic, we need to assess this elaborately," an official told The Tribune.
"A young doctor died due to the virus. People should not take Covid-19 lightly," Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences told the daily.
Dr. Avnish Kumar, the Director, Department of Medical Education and Research, Punjab, Dr. Akashdeep Aggarwal, and Civil Surgeon Patiala attended the funeral of Dr. Ankit on behalf of the Punjab Government, reports UNI.
