Microbotox Intradermal Injection Effectively Reduces Enlarged Facial Pores

Egypt: Researchers from Egypt found that Microbotox injections can effectively and safely minimize enlarged facial pores with no downtime. The study results were published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
Some of the commonly encountered cosmetic concerns are enlarged facial pores and seborrhea. These occur due to multiple reasons, but they have a great impact on the quality of life. Microbotox is one of the procedures that improve the sheen and texture of the skin by reducing enlarged pores. Previous literature suggests that both microbotox and microneedling can tighten the skin envelope. Hence researchers from Egypt conducted a study to compare the efficacy and longevity of intradermal microbotox injection against the topical application of microbotox with microneedling in the treatment of wide facial pores in a split-face-designed study.

A split-face study was performed on 20 patients with enlarged facial pores and seborrhea. On the right side of the face, a 1 ml syringe of microbotox solution containing 20 units of botulinum toxin A was injected via multiple intradermal injections using a 30-gauge needle and the other was treated with its topical application with 1 ml of the prepared mesobotox solution following microneedling with dermapen for 3 s. Patients were evaluated after 1 month and also after 4 months. Patient satisfaction was evaluated by the Likert satisfaction scale.

Key findings of the study:

The percentage of pore and sebum scores improvement was significantly higher on the right side than on the left side.
mesobotox injection was more satisfying than topical application.
A higher percentage of improvement was reported in females, nonsmokers, and those who have an indoor occupation.
Microbotox injections given on the right side of the face were more stable after 4 months of evaluation.
Thus, Microbotox Intradermal injection was effective, safe, and satisfactory in minimizing enlarged facial pores with no downtime even after a single session.
