The mass bunk of resident doctors by the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has been called off. Central MARD had threatened to go to action over protests by doctors at GMCH Nagpur, demanding strict action against Dr Makrand Vyawahare, who was accused of harassment (both mental and physical) by a junior resident.

The charges against Dr Vyawahare were of very grave nature given that a female junior resident had also raised her voice against a sexual harassment incident involving him. Central MARD promised to lend their support to the matter after protests by GMCH didn't get any attention from the concerned authorities.

Following this second threat of strike by MARD in the last six months, Maharashtra education minister Vinod Tawde, has taken immediate action to avoid any untoward situation. A decision has been taken to transfer Dr Vyavhare to GMC Chandrapur, as confirmed by a press note issued by MARD.

Thanking the ministry on the development, Dr Sagar Mundada, President MARD has told team that, "the said doctor who has been accused of mental harassment, sexual harassment has been transferred to GMC Chandrapur where there are no post graduate students. We are grateful to Shri.Vinod Tawdeji for again acting as our guardian and meting out justice in spite of the circumstances".

MARD President further elaborated that that regarding the other 7 remaining demands of July3 , step wise steps will be taken in time bound manner and coordinator will be appointed to prevent future delay at The medical education secretary office, DMER director level in Nagpur.

"We are thankful to Vinod Tawdeji for truly acting in a very unbiased spirit and we call off the mass bunk at 2.30pm and all residents will resume duties from 4pm."
