Man Extorts Rs 75 Lakh From Pune Doctor Family, Arrested

Pune: A pune based Ayurveda practitioner allegedly became a victim of extortion after one of their known-to persons blackmailed him of Rs 75 lakhs using the name of his son, a practising gastroenterologist in the area
Police on Thursday arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly extorting Rs 75 lakh from a city-based practitioner. Manoj Adsul, the accused, was arrested in Mumbai by a team of city police.
He is accused of blackmailing an AYUSH practitioner as well as his son, a practising doctor in the area
A woman patient had alleged earlier that doctor son had molested her in his clinic.
Speaking to the media persons here, the police informed that When Manoj Adsul got to know about the alleged molestation by the son, he approached the father and told him the woman belongs to an SC community and that son can be booked under the Atrocities Act and would be unable to obtain bai

Adsul then allegedly demanded Rs 1.30 crore from the family to "settle" the case the police official informed PTI
Of the amount, Adsul took Rs 75 lakh from the father-- Rs 54 lakh through cheques and Rs 21 lakh in cash, said the officer.
As Adsul kept demanding the remaining money, the practitioner approached the police and lodged a case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 384 (extortion), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) and 389 (putting person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion).
Adsul had approached a court and sought anticipatory bail, however, it was rejected. After his arrest, he was produced before a court and remanded in police custody for seven days.
