New Delhi: A five-month-old infant fromChhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly died after being administered ayurvedic medicine, prompting the state government's Ayush Department to seize the medicines and send samples for testing and other necessary legal actions, the Ayush ministry said on Friday. It said that theMinistry of Ayushis actively coordinating with state authorities to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in Ayush medicines, promoting their safe and effective use for public well-being. In a statement, theMinistry of Ayushstated its commitment to ensuring the safety and quality standards ofAyush medicinesand issued necessary directions to the state and Union Territory (UT) governments for ensuring the compliance of provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Drug Rules, 1945, from time to time, the ministry said in a statement. The state and UT licensing authority is empowered to act against misbranded, adulterated and spurious Ayush drugs. "As per the information received from the Drug Control Department Ayush, State Government of Madhya Pradesh, immediate actions have been taken in this regard, including seizure of the alleged drugs and sending the sample for testing and other necessary legal actions," the statement said, reports PTI. had earlier reported that the Ministry of Ayush highlights the role of Ayush systems in providing holistic, preventive, and rehabilitative care for stroke, one of the leading causes of death and disability in India. Emphasising an integrative approach, Ayush systems focus on promoting systemic balance, enhancing resilience, and supporting long-term recovery to complement conventional medical care in stroke management.
