Ahmedabad Hospital Incident
A FIR was recently lodged against a doctor for allegedly admitting 13 pneumonia patients in a non-COVID hospital solely on their High-Resolution Computed Technology (HRTC) report.
The FIR was lodged based on a complaint moved by Govind Makwana, the deputy health officer of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in Naroda police station on Thursday.
The FIR stated that Dr. Bhavin Solanki, AMC's health officer, complained about the hospital on Wednesday to doctor Makwana via WhatsApp. Assistant professor Doctor Sunil Chand of LG Hospital reportedly checked the hospital along with his team of resident doctors based on the complaint. They found that 13 pneumonia patients were admitted there on the basis of their HRTC report.
The civic body allegedly found the doctor at fault in admitting pneumonia patients in a non-COVID hospital as the AMC doctor had claimed that cases of pneumonia are to be taken as COVID-19 until proved otherwise.
Taking note of the same, AMC sealed the hospital and the doctor was booked under the following sections:
- Sections 188, 269, 271 of IPC
- Section 51(b) of Disaster Management Act
- Section 3 of the Epidemic Act

As per a recent report by Times of India, the accused doctor was allegedly aware of the fact that the hospital was not designated for the treatment of COVID-positive patients. However, he admitted the pneumonia patients based only on their HRTC reports. This, as per the FIR, could be the reason for the transmission of dangerous diseases and put people's lives in danger.
Speaking to TOI, Inspector H K Solanki informed that the police have asked for the list of COVID hospitals in the city from AMC in order to verify whether Atmiya Hospital was a non-COVID hospital. Further, the reports of the patients have also been asked to verify whether they were COVID-19 patients or not.
"We will also record statements of patients who were admitted to the hospital before taking action against the doctor," Solanki added.
