Many of the Gujarat medical colleges are all set to start MBBS classes from January 2021. Some medical colleges are preparing to start offline teaching for MBBS students from February 1, abiding by the guidelines of the National Medical Commission. The pandemic broke out in March end and ever since, medical colleges have had to arrange online classes for medical students.

Final year MBBS and PG students were deployed in several COVID-19 facilities during the time. Hence, medical colleges are making preparations so that reopening of colleges should not get delayed any further. Many of the medical colleges suggested that foundation classes can be arranged offline in January and full-fledged classes for the session can resume from February.

The Dean of GMERS Sula Medical College, Dr. Nitin Vora told Times of India, "We are planning to start teaching the foundation course as early as December end or in the first week of January." Explaining the course, he further added that the course includes basic orientation on the doctor-patient relationship, ethics, and other relevant topics.

The authorities of a local Medical College told the daily that as there was a sudden outbreak of the pandemic, certain preventive measures have to be adopted by the authorities to ensure the safety of the students. Hence, the reopening of the colleges got delayed due to the pandemic. Planning has been carried out so that offline classes can be arranged from January, which will pave the way for holding full-fledged offline classes for the academic session from February 1st.

Dr. Pranay Shah, Dean of BJ Medical College, told TOI that "We are likely to begin offline teaching from January, starting from foundation courses." The Deans of most of the medical colleges have already secured the permission of the authorities to reopen medical colleges.
