Ahmedabad: A 20-year-old MBBS student of GMERS medical college in Gandhinagar, unable to bear the pressure of exams has allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her hostel. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at 8 am.
The deceased has been identified as Aastha Panchasara, a third-year MBBS student at the college.
According to her suicide note, addressing her parents she stated that the reason behind her suicide is that she gave her second-year examination on Friday which did not meet her expectation.

She only had her grandfather, Vasudev Panchasara look after her as her parents live in Dubai. Her grandfather is a retired civil engineer who lives in Gandhinagar.
While speaking with TOI, Sector 7 inspector Dharmendra Chaudhari said, "We found a note in English from her hostel room no. 907. It began with the word 'sorry'. She wrote that she was killing herself as she could not take the pressure of studies."
College dean Shobhna Gupta said, "Aastha's parents live abroad. She passed Class 12 from a Gandhinagar school and got admission here in the NRI quota. She had failed two subjects in her second year and was taking her ATKT exams."

Investigating officer D N Parmar said, "After appearing for her exam on Friday, she called her grandfather and told him that she had not performed well. Her grandfather asked her uncle to bring a tiffin for her and have a chat with her. However, when her uncle called her, she told him that she would manage and convinced him not to come over. At 8 am on Saturday, she committed suicide."
In NIH, it has been reported that as many as 358 suicide deaths have been calculated in a survey conducted by them among medical students, residents and physicians between 2010 and 2019 showed around seven out of 10 suicides happened before the age of 30. Academic stress and financial issues were the causes listed as the reasons behind the suicides.
