The deceased has been identified as a 22-year-old third-year nursing student of HN Shukla Group of Colleges, which is a private nursing college. She was working at the dedicated covid-19 hospital. She was a native of Lakhtar village in Jamnagar and she was studying in Rajkot for the last three years. She joined Rajkot Civil Hospital, a designated covid-19 hospital as a nurse around 4 months ago. She was provided accommodation in a room in the girls' hostel and she was residing there.
The Indian Express reports that according to the police, the death came to light when her roommate returned to the hostel at around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday after completing her duty in the covid-19 hospital. When the roommate returned and called the nursing student, she did not get a response. She repeatedly knocked on the door and called her but when there was no response, the other nurses also assembled and broke into the room.
They found the student hanging from the ceiling fan of the room. Her roommate immediately informed the warden and the police were called. Pradyuman Nagar police registered a case of accidental death.
As per a report by Times of India, the father of the deceased nursing student told the police that the student called her mother on Tuesday at noon and complained that she was getting frustrated and exhausted with the work. She also expressed that she wanted to return home by taking one month's leave. If speculations of suicide are true, what might have driven the nursing student to take the extreme step is yet to be determined. Police are investigating the case to find out the cause of death.
