New Delhi: In yet another fraud case, a doctor was recently duped of around Rs 1.75 lakh by a man who impersonated as an army officer on OLX and cheated him of the amount on the pretext of selling an iPhone.
Based on the complaint filed by the doctor, the accused, identified as a Haryana based civil engineer, has been arrested by the police. Upon arrest, accused had said that his nearby villagers cheated people by impersonating some officers on the pretext of selling vehicles and latest mobile phones on an online platform, following which he also adopted the same modus operandi, the DCP informed PTI.
According to a recent report by PTI, one Dr Dubey, posted at Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences, lodged a police complaint alleging that a man cheated him of around Rs 1.75 lakh on the pretext of selling the latest iPhone on the website. The seller introduced himself as an Army officer, a senior police officer said.

During the investigation, police found that the accused routed the money from one e-wallet to another e-wallet and bank accounts, the officer said.
"Later, with technical help, police arrested Ahmad from Nuh district in Haryana on Saturday," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Amit Sharma said.
The police probed the bank account of the accused and found that a transaction of more than Rs 10 lakh was made from his account.
At the time of interrogation, the 29-year-old accused disclosed that he was a civil engineer by profession. He revealed that locals in his village (Falandi Shah Chokha, Mewat) have duped several people by impersonating themselves as army officers on the pretext of selling vehicles and mobile phones on OLX. Therefore, "I also adopted the same method to do the scam", Ahmad added, quotes Business Today
