Maharastra: In a fraud case, a Maharashtra based 36-year-old doctor was duped of Rs 40 lakh after a man claiming to be a private bank employee cheated him by making false claims of sanctioning a loan of Rs 8 crore. On the basis of the complaint filed by the doctor, the Nagari police have lodged a complaint against the con under the charges of committing fraud.
According to recent media reports, the accused approached the doctor as a bank employee and convinced him to pay 40 lakhs in order to get a loan of 8 Crores and afterwards fled with the money.

It is reported that the man claiming to be a private bank employee called the doctor on his mobile phone and stated that he is an employee of Kalyani Nagar Bank and suggested an attractive loan scheme for the doctor. The doctor who has been running a hospital in Akurdi, Pimpri Chinchwad, wanted to expand is a hospital and agreed on the terms stated by him.
The doctor was asked to submit some documents in order to complete the KYC process which is mandatory to secure a loan from the bank. The person asked the doctor for 40 lakhs for initiating the bank loan process. In fact, the doctor was given a loan sanction letter amounting to rupees 8 crores.
Meanwhile, he submitted the necessary documents for his KYC process and he also gave the fake employee rupees 40 lakh after which a fake loan sanction letter was given to him; however, after some days he could not reach the employee as his phone was switched off then the doctor resorted to take the help of the police.
Police inspector Machindra Patil of Nigdi police station told Times of India that "The doctor wanted to expand the existing facility. He received a call from the man last month. He met the doctor at his clinic but did not get out of his vehicle citing the Covid-19 threat. He had told the doctor to pay Rs 40 lakh as processing fees before sanctioning the loan amount. Without verifying the credentials of the person, the doctor, who had withdrawn the amount from the bank, handed it over to the man. He did not even visit the bank over the next few days to enquire about the loan."
He also added that "The doctor approached us and subsequently lodged the complaint. he phone number of the man is not functioning anymore and his name also turned out to be fake. Since he didn't step out of his vehicle while accepting the money, we don't have CCTV footage. Our investigation is underway."
The Hindusthan Times adds that the Nigdi police have booked the accused under section 406 ( criminal breach of trust ),420 ( cheating ), 465 ( forgery ),467 ( forgery of valuable security ), 468 ( forgery for purpose of cheating ) and 471 ( using as genuine a forged document or electronic record ) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the investigating officer, the accused has been identified as Rohan Pawar but has not been arrested.
