After the cancellation of the registration of the KV Ayurvedic Medical College, one of the protesting BAMS students seeking permission to appear for the examination tried to self-immolate in front of the Dr BR Ambedkar University's Palwal Park campus recently as the last resort of urging the authorities to take stock of their situation.

This came after the state medical department cancelled the registration of the KV Ayurvedic Medical College after the Central Council of Indian Medicine found it not up to the mark and blacklisted the college. Hence the 65 medicos of the self-financed college who secured admission to the college through NEET counselling 2018 are left helpless with uncertainty regarding their future.

According to a recent media report, following this, 30 medicos pursuing Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) at the same institution started showing their protest on the Palwal park campus of Dr. BR Ambedkar University. When they did not secure any response of the authority, one of the medicos tried to self-immolate but he was instantly stopped by other students and police.

The BAMS student who took the drastic step vehemently urged the authorities to either give them permission to sit for the examination which is going to be conducted on October 13 or to cancel the examination altogether.

Previously the students turned to Allahabad High Court for redressal and the matter is still sub-judice. The Court has listed the case for the next hearing on October 19th. Meanwhile, the university decided to conduct the examination from October 13 before the decision of the court.

The concerned student told Times of India, "We are allotted the college during NEET counseling. We don't understand what is our fault was. If the college's registration has been canceled, we should be transferred to some other college by University administration. Why are we being penalized by not allowing for the exams." He further added that "the course is already running late, we can't afford to waste more time. The state government should intervene in the matter and take a time-bound action. We are all in mental stress."

Another protesting student told the daily that "the High court has ordered the Principal Secretary (Medical education) to take a decision in the interest of the students. The next hearing of the case is on October 19. However, the University is trying to conduct the BAMS exam from October 13. We want the University administration to either allow us to appear for the exam or to cancel it till a further decision is arrived at by the court."

However, stating the university's take on the whole matter, the university registrar AK Mishra stated that "the matter of KV ayurvedic College is sub-judice. We understand the students' concerns. If the high court orders, we will conduct the exam separately for the students. As of now, we cannot postpone exams just for one private college."
