Haryana: The Sultanpur-based BRS Dental College and General Hospital in Haryana, is going to be shut down, according to the recently released notification by Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) Haryana.
The Haryana Government has ordered the closure of BRS Dental College and General Hospital, Panchkula while acting on the directive of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Referring to the Central Government order issued back in September, this year, the DMER notice mentioned, "It is for the information of all concerned that Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide order dated 20.09.2021 has accorded approval for withdrawal of recognition under Section 16(A) of Dentist Act, 1948 & stoppage of admissions to both UG/PG Courses under Section 11(A) of DCI Regulation, 2006, and closure down of BRS Dental College and General Hospital Sultanpur, Barwala, Panchkula, Haryana."
Now, even though the college will not be able to make new admissions to BDS/MDS courses, DMER Haryana has clarified that this move would not affect the existing students as the State Government via offline counselling would adjust the students in other recognized institutes.
"For the continuation of studies of the students in BDS/MDS Course, the State Government would be conducting counselling (offline) in Pt. B.D Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak for adjustment of students in other recognized Institutions. The Date & Time and schedule for the conduct of counselling (offline) will be notified soon. Candidates are advised to regularly check the website i.e. https://dmer.haryana.gov.in/ and www.uhsr.ac.in for further updates." added the notice.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, the medical college, which is one of the major hubs for dental education in the State, has been facing a conflict between the management and the teaching staff allegedly over the issue of non-payment of salaries and other issues.
In fact, back in 2020 as well, the students pursuing their education in the dental college, had been given a conditional nod by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for appearing in the examinations. At that time, the college had also asked DCI for conducting an inspection of the college. However, it was withheld considering the COVID lockdown.
