New Delhi:TheNational Eligibility Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025aspirants are still awaiting the announcement regarding the commencement of counselling for the All India Quota (AIQ) seats. Even though the PG medical entrance exam was conducted more than two months ago and the results were released on August 19, 2025, there is still no word from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) regarding the commencement of the AIQ counselling. The Times of India has reported that the MCC, which is in charge of conducting the AIQ counselling, has informed the States that the regulatory authority, theNational Medical Commission (NMC), has asked the committee to put the process on hold. While the aspirants are confused and worried about this indefinite delay, the officials at the Tamil Nadu State Selection Committee have explained that the delay in counselling is primarily due to two factors. The first factor is that NMC is finalizing and approving the addition of new medical colleges and increasing the MD/MS seats in the existing medical colleges for 2025-26. On the other hand, officials at the Apex Medical Commission, NMC, informed the Daily that the delay is attributed to the battles in the Supreme Court, on various issues, including the pending litigation demanding transparency from the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) regarding the release of the full question paper and answer key of the NEET PG exam. Meanwhile, the TN State Selection Committee, which conducts the counselling for admitting students under the state quota seats, has started receiving applications for PG admissions and is in the process of scrutinising applications. The committee will allocate seats to students at both state-run and self-financing medical colleges. Commenting on the delay, Dr R Karthikeyan, who is awaiting PG admissions, told TOI, "We got our results two months ago. I didn't take up a job because I would have to quit if I get admission. Many of my friends are also unemployed and are waiting for counselling to start. It's like batches of doctors put on compulsory wait by the govt." TheMedical Counselling Committee (MCC)oversees the counselling for 50% of India's postgraduate medical seats. The schedule for NEET PG 2025 counselling was going to be published by MCC soon after the results for the examination were released on August 19, 2025.
