Lucknow: In defense of Ayurveda doctors, the Chief Minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has questioned the intellect of the doctors opposing the Centre's decision to allow Ayurveda doctors to perform surgeries.
The CM, on Monday, said that he feels "pity" on those doctors who were questioning the Centre's decision of granting permission to Ayush doctors to perform surgeries.
Last month, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had staged protests against a government notification allowing AYUSH streams to be trained to perform general surgical procedures, alleging the move will lead to "mixopathy".
Claiming that the first surgeon of this planet had belonged to Ayurveda, the CM of Uttar Pradesh defended the Centre's decision and criticized the doctors who protested against this ancient Indian stream of treatment, reports PTI.
"I was surprised to know that recently some doctors opposed the move. I pity for their intelligence. They need to be told that the first surgeon on earth was given by Ayurveda," the CM commented during the launching of telemedicine services for AYUSH.

During the ceremony, about 1,100 Ayurvedic and homeopathic doctors recruited by the state public service commission were also given their appointment letters. The Indian Express reports that he told the Ayurveda and homeopathy doctors who received the appointment letters to work extra hard to publicize their disciplines.
The yoga instructors at the wellness centers will be paid Rs 27,000 per month, while their assistants will receive Rs 7,000, added the daily.
CM claimed that Ayurveda, Unani, and homeopathy have a lot of potential in the treatment of various diseases but it was not taken forward. He also regretted that those associated with Ayurveda and other traditional methods did not make any effort to do research for a very long time and lagged behind.
Thus, asking the newly appointed instructors not to view their jobs in monetary terms and advised them to spend time beyond their official work hours to understand and research the field.
The CM also inaugurated 142 health and wellness centers virtually. He directed for continuous review of the work of yoga instructors and assistants posted at the centers as well. He instructed officials to prepare a list of specialists in the field of Yoga in the state and in other parts of India, whom people can consult. Such consultations, Adityanath stated, should be provided free of cost through a website that should have a list of the specialists and the dates of their availability.
As per a recent report by The Indian Express, Yogi claimed that during the Covid-19 pandemic the demand for "turmeric, ginger, tulsi" and Indian "karha", which is an ayurvedic drink, increased worldwide.
Further, praising the efforts of Prime Minister Modi in promoting Yoga throughout the world CM further added, "These centers will play an important role in health tourism. Yoga has received global acceptance with the continuous efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He formed the Ministry of AYUSH and also established an AYUSH University and now it is our responsibility to promote his efforts."
