BMC Slaps Rs 72 Cr On DY Patil Medical College For Causing Financial Loss

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC) has slapped Rs 72 crore to DY Patil Medical College for causing financial loss to the civic body. In a notice served to the medical college, the BMC has asked the college to pay the amount within a month.

This comes after the college had reportedly violated the terms and conditions of the agreement it had with BMC for using the services of the civic-run Rajawadi and Bhabha hospitals since their medical college did not have any hospital.

According to the BMC notice, " "The BMC permitted them ( the college) to use 544 beds at Rajawadi and 276 beds at Bhabha Hospital for training their students for a period of 22 years since 1991. However, the trust was violating terms and conditions of the agreement. As per the audit conducted, an amount of Rs72,57,21,807 has not been paid by the trust."

BMC has also written to MCI about the college using the civic-run facilities after the expiry of the contract and not paying. According to sources if the college had promised setting up of quarters for BMC employees reate an additional campus of around 70,000 sq ft in the Rajawadi Hospital campus and donate books to the hospital, none of which has been done till now. BMC may also initiate legal proceedings against the college.
