However, it had earlier been reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) had declared "Zero Year" at the Ambikapur Medical College for the academic year of 2019-2020.

Due to gross deficiencies at the medical college, the institute had received "Zero Year" twice in the past four years. One of the main reasons for this was that there was less than 20 percent lack of faculty and senior residents along with adequate infrastructure.
