NBE Advisory for Final Year Trainees

New Delhi: Now, all Final Year DNB, DrNB, and FNB trainees will have to discharge duties, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has mandated. This recent advisory comes in view of the extraordinary situation due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

In January, the Natboard had extended the training of all the NBE trainees of the following batches whose scheduled tenure is ending in 2021, by a period of "three months" beyond their scheduled date of completion of training, across all the courses (DNB/DrNB/FNB).

  • Course
  • Admission Session
  • DNB Broad Specialty (Post MBBS) - 2018
  • DrNB Super Specialty - 2018
  • DNB Broad Specialty (Post Diploma) - 2019
  • FNB - 2019

It was also specified that the period of extension shall be further aligned to the training period, if and when extended by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for its courses.

However, now, the NMC has recently notified that the services of these postgraduate students as Residents may be continued to be utilized till fresh batches of postgraduate students have joined. The decision was taken in light of the delay in the conduction of NEET PG 2021 and all other medical examinations across the medical institutions whilst ensuring that there would not be any shortage of Residents to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Considering the effect, it has been decided by the NBE that the services of all DNB, DrNB, FNB trainees of the above-mentioned batches as Residents may be continued to be utilized at NBE accredited hospitals, over and above their mandatory 3 months' extension, till fresh batches for 2021 admission session have joined or counselling for NEET-PG 2021 is concluded, whichever is earlier.

The hospitals have been further directed to pay the required stipend to the trainees for their service.

NBE Advisory

The NBE advisory clearly states:

  • All DNB/DrNB/FNB trainees are required to discharge the duties as may be prescribed by their hospitals in this time of National exigency.
  • The NBE Accredited hospitals are required to pay the stipend to the trainees as per the stipend guidelines of NBE.
