New Delhi: Lashing out at popular TV comedians for his alleged derogatory remarks against doctors involved in COVID management and treatment, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of AIIMS has submitted a letter to Union Home minister Amit Shah seeking his intervention and strict action against the comedian for the " nefarious and ill hearted " comments in an entertainment channel.
According to PTI, in an over three-minute video, the comedian is purportedly heard accusing doctors of not being transparent in their COVID-19 treatment procedures and fleecing the people. He even described doctors as "evil" and urged the government to install CCTV cameras in the wards where coronavirus patients are kept. Reaching to his comments, AIIMS RDA has submitted a letter to the Union Home minister and branded his comments as "blunt lies".

In the letter, the association mentioned, "It breaks the heart of all those who have endeared so much, doctors and non-doctors alike when their intentions are questioned and maleficence is spread by denigrating words. The recent monologue by comedian Sunil Pal circulated on the NBT entertainment channel has pinched the weary nerves of all doctors who have jumped back into this war, often selflessly, and is definitely bound to affect their morale and grit."
Criticizing his blatant accusations, the association further stated, " His words are nefarious, ill-hearted and ill-conceived. His blatant accusations of fraudulent deeds of doctors, comparing doctors to evil creatures of the society, and spreading lies about COVID-19 when the whole country is fighting against it, is beyond logic. Dissemination of such blunt lies will be extremely dangerous at such times and relegate the faith of patients in the healthcare system."
Calling doctors men of valour, the association stated that the doctors are the soldiers in this battle against the pandemic. AIIMS RDA also mentioned, " it is time for us to remind everyone that we need the same support now. His action warrants the strongest punishment so that we understand that our country is with us as we face this COVID-19 war. Government should ensure that such provocative videos propagating falsified information should be admonished."
"On behalf of the medical fraternity, and all healthcare and frontline workers we demand strongly that strictest steps be taken against his inappropriate conduct at the earliest to prevent unrest amongst doctors and anxiety amongst the affected patients and their family," the RDA letter stated.
RDA AIIMS has recently posted on their social media account stating, " The individual has purportedly apologized. Not enough, but at least a welcome step. RDA AIIMS will always support the cause of doctors who genuinely strive for their patients."
