New Delhi: Under the Centrally Scheme, a total number of 23 new medical colleges have been approved in Rajasthan in the last three years, MoS Health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar has informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Dr. Pawar further informed the upper house of the parliament that an amount of Rs 958. 40 crore has been released by the Central Government for constituting new medical colleges in Rajasthan.
However, the data shared by MoS Health also revealed that only 7 new medical colleges have been recognized by the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI), now National Medical Commission (NMC) during the last three years.
The Minister was asked to present the data regarding the number of medical colleges that were recognized by MCI, now NMC across the country in the last three years, the details of funds allocated to the recognized medical colleges in Rajasthan during these years, and also whether the allocated funds have been utilized for works like construction of building, improvement of teaching system, purchase of medical equipments etc.

Responding to these queries, the Minister informed the Parliament that "The Ministry administers a Centrally Scheme (CSS) for Establishment of New Medical colleges attached with existing district/referral Hospitals. Under the scheme, 23 new medical colleges in State of Rajasthan have been approved."
"One time grant is provided for infrastructure and equipments. During last three years, an amount of Rs.958.40 crores has been released to the State as Central share under the said scheme," further informed the MoS Health.
Dr. Pawar has also shared the data regarding the number of medical colleges which have been granted recognition during the last three years. As per the data a total number of 32 medical colleges have received recognition in 2019, 26 medical colleges have been recognized in 2020 and a total number of 66 medical colleges got recognition in 2021.
The data reveals that in Rajasthan a total number of 7 new medical colleges have been recognized in the last three years and among them in 2019 and 2020 respectively, 2 and 1 medical colleges have been given recognition. In 2021 alone, 4 new medical colleges have received recognition, revealed the data.
had earlier reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stones of four District Medical Colleges in September this year. These four medical colleges, sanctioned under the Centrally Scheme, will come up in the districts of Sirohi, Hanumangarh, Banswara and Dausa.
